- - - THE RANKS - - -
Alpha:
This is the irrefutable pack leader. There is only one alpha, until that male or female chooses to take a mate. The alpha's word is law. Usually only the alpha pair will breed without consequence. The death of one alpha does not affect the status of its mate. All members of the pack must aide in the rearing of the alpha's young.
Heir/Heiress:
This is the chosen pup of the current alpha pair whom will go on to inherit their alpha status one day. Though the pup is usually male, a particularly bold, fierce female may occupy this position. This title is not given until the pup has proven itself in some way. They are overruled only by the alphas, but lack the persuasion of their parents.
Beta:
This wolf and it's mate are considered second-in-command to the pack alpha. They have slight control over other members of the pack, but only to a point.
Matriarch/Patriarch:
This is the oldest wolf in the pack (must be over seven years of age). There can only be one at a time, whether matriarch (female) or patriarch (male). This is the wolf that is trusted for guidance and advice by other pack members and is revered for their age and life experience.
Subordinate:
This rank makes up the bulk of the pack. This the largest and most common rank. These wolves participate in hunts, help defend the territory, rear the alpha's pups, etc. but hold no sway over any of the above ranks, and should obey all others, besides the omega.
Omega
The omega is the lowest in the pack's hierarchy. It is the most timid, usually the youngest, weakest, and most submissive of all the pack members. The omega may be bullied by the subordinates. These individuals absorb the greatest amount of aggression from the rest of the pack, and consequently enjoy comparatively few individual privileges. There is only one omega at a time.
